Our school(Martinniemen koulu) gives three teachers and our head teacher an opportunity to widen our professional skills through Erasmus+ courses. We are situated in Oulu, Northern Finland. We have 325 students, 20 teachers and three school assistants.At the moment we are createing an international strategy for our school. We feel that close contacts with other schools in Europe will benefit our school work. Teachers should keep up with the international dimension. For our pupils, schoolbooks should not be the only source of information about other European countries. Personal contacts and those between classes are best possible education in appreciating people from different backgrounds. As extra curricular benefits, we will gain personal contacts with European colleagues, wich will enable cooperation in different kinds of projects. Enhancing our English competences is important to all participants. We should be able to manage our international contacts so that language competence is not an obstacle. For those of us who teach English it is necessary to update and improve language skills. The inclusive method demands creative pedagocical and management solutions. We hope to get good practices for teaching mixed ability classes from other course participants, and share our knowledge with them.We hope to learn new methods to use digital materials and ICT in school.Iceland - Landscapes and LegendsThe themes of this course are art education, local history, literature, environment, and nature. The themes are combined with various work methods in a school subject integrated, holistic way. This phenomenon based teaching is an important part of our new national curriculum.Creative Teaching in the Primary ClassroomThis intensive course is aimed for primary school English teachers and takes place in Oxford. It offers creative teaching methods to make the classes more lively and interactive. It gives tools to work with challenging classes. The course includes practical activities, language improvement and visits to local school and university. Effective Management of 21st CenturyThis course takes a systemic approach to educational management and understanding trends in the field. It provides methods to foresee and solve problems in school management and those concerning pedagogical issues. The course has a strong practical focus. It takes place in Italy.Diverse Society - Diverse Classroom Student's diversity benefitting social diversity Special focus on key competences and cooperative learning in multicultural/diverse groups This course provides with tools to support pupils coming from different cultures and backgrounds. It teaches new, creative ways to solve emerging conflicts. Practical activities will help learning the methods.Through attending these courses, we will get versatile knowledge and competences that benefit both teaching and pupils. We will share the new competences with our colleagues, so the whole school get the most of the courses. The course material will be for all the colleagues to use. Getting to know a new country broadens our knowledge of Europe and gives more inspiration and motivation to work.In the long run, despite of its remote location, our school will remain on top of the educational developement.
