Maritime inlands - past, present and future strength (MARIFUS)
Start date: Mar 31, 2012, End date: Dec 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

MARIFUS aims to strengthen the tourism industry in the Kattegat/Skagerrak region with more visitors and more attractive places to visit through a cross-border platform for collaboration on particular waterways and lakes. The project will contribute to strong business around the sights and thereby increase sales. The Kattegat/Skagerrak region has two major inland waterways, Limfjord and Trollhättan Canal with Lake Vänern. Between these is the Kattegat coast of Vendsyssel, which acts as a natural communication link connecting the areas. The areas have long internal stretches of coast with varying maritime heritage environments, such as channel areas, ports, urban and natural areas. The regions are facing similar challenges, and are for many visitors not as well known as many coastal areas. The project MARIFUS therefore wants to work to strengthen the sustainable economic development while preserving the history and environments of these areas. MARIFUS is about creating new, creative and effective common solutions to attract visitors and investors, mainly to inland waterways and lakes in the region. The project will increase the attractiveness of the maritime heritage environments by discovering new shared experiences, concepts and solutions. The project will create an increased cross-border cooperation between maritime tourism clusters in the program area and a common profiling of the region to visitors.
