Manufactories of caring space-time
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Jun 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Museum of Fine Arts / Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Gent (Belgium), the FRAC Lorraine in Metz (France) and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona (Spain) envision to create, in their different institutions, a platform for reflection on the development of the relational, the collective and collaborative as new tendencies in art. Each institution will select art collectives or cooperatives to produce a project with the surrounding communities. The collaborative work will then travel to the next institution, and to the next, until full circle. As a consequence, the creative process between artists and communities will expand and cross borders in a transnational process, in which reflection, awareness and inclusion are core values. In the end, this reflective thinking together will materialize in objects during the process itself. Through the visions, narratives and tools provided by arts – be it performing arts, visual or graphic arts, literature, etc- we will explore, repair/recycle and play with the meanings and values of 'discarded' material and epistemic cultures. Their new (re)signification and (re)valuation revive and stir up the depleted economic models and art circuits. The aim is to recover other ways of art and culture production, other know-hows or objects of art, outside institutional circuits and market, to explore creatively and collectively, together with local communities, more sustainable ecologies and economies of art. All these developed know-hows and experiences will be shared, tested and replicated beyond Europe thanks to a web platform. At the base of the touring project, from Gent to Metz to Barcelona to Gent is an attempt at rethinking current society, facing the many challenges, its structures, its processes, and also the human relations.
