Manager of Your Own Destiny
Start date: Aug 22, 2016, End date: Jan 21, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

It is not a secret that Europe experiences today a time of crisis, in particular from the economic point of view. One of the consequences of the crisis are the current high levels of youth unemployment across the EU. According to Eurostat data of October 2015, despite a slight improvement over the peak reached in 2013, the situation in many countries is still alarming. The youth unemployment rate in the EU is 20%. The situation is particularly serious in Spain and Italy, where youth unemployment rates are the highest in Europe (47.7% and 39.8% respectively), but also countries such as France, however, have a higher level than the average (24.7%).In response to this condition, the European Commission has promoted several initiatives (in particular the Entrepreneurship Action Plan 2020) designed to unleash the entrepreneurial potential of Europe, to remove existing barriers and revolutionize the culture of entrepreneurship in Europe. The project "Manager of Your Own Destiny" adheres to the European action in the field of youth entrepreneurship. The promoters of the project believe that the current socio-economic situation in Europe, and more generally, the challenges that young Europeans have been facing with today, require a paradigm shift. If times change and new challenges emerge, requiring new forms of engagement with and for young people, the youth work and the non-formal education become fundamental ways to promote learning and empowerment of young people, in line with those expressed in "The Socio-Economic Scope of Youth Work in Europe" (EU-CoE Youth Partnership and SALTO 2008).These are the basis of the project "Manager of Your Own Destiny", a training course of seven days (travelling days included) addressed to 28 youth workers and members of organizations active in the youth field aged 18-30 years from 7 European countries ( Italy included). The main objective of the project is to provide innovative tools and methods to help participants develop transferable skills useful to improve employability, in particular the sense of entrepreneurship and the ability to communicate effectively. The specific objectives are:- To develop a broader understanding about the soft skills, especially entrepreneurship and ability to innovate- Introduce and discuss about practical arrangements (examples, methods, tools, tips, ...) through which youth workers can support young people in creating a business, as a tool to develop their soft skills- Discover and realize how youth entrepreneurship initiatives can be a significant impact on local communities in terms of active citizenship- Increase the interest and the implementation of projects under the Erasmus + (in particular Chapter Youth) as a way to develop entrepreneurship and employability of young people- Provide a space for the creation of effective and innovative partnerships and projects aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship. The project activities have been divided into three main areas: 1) Creation of the "learning environment" 2) Entrepreneurship and uncertainty 3) Challenging challenges.Through methodologies of non-formal education, the project will aim at sharing competences, attitudes and skills and at the same time stimulating articipants' awareness of their own learning process. The project team has based its work on examples of good practice. Among them, the "Entrepreneurship Education: a Guide for Educators" published by the Directorate General for Enterprise & Industry of the European Commission, and the report of the seminar "Get Ready for Youth Entrepreneurship", organized in 2013 by the National Agencies of Italy and Sweden and resource center SALTO-YOUTH Participation under the Youth in Action Programme. On these basis, the impact and dissemination of the results of the project have been planned in a strategic manner in order to produce visible results, reproducible and re-usable in the long term. The objectives of "Manager of Your Own Destiny" are in line with the overall objectives of the program, Erasmus + and in particular the key action 1 of Youth sector. The project will help young people to improve their compenteces and key skills , as means to promote greater participation in democratic life in Europe and in the labor market, as well as active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion.
