Maîtriser l’anglais pour une ouverture du lycée sur l’Europe et l’international.
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Saint-Paul IV high school is suffering from a poor image. Indicators of success in the examination of the scientific branch in the general exam are lower than academic averages. The degree of filling of the classes is about 51% for the last grade. Finally, the student’s level in English following the technological branch (STL) is insufficient for a post-baccalaureate orientation abroad. The 2014-2017 school project intends to make school more attractive by improving Student performance (Axis I), valuing the scientific branch (axis II-2) and opening our school onto international (axis III-2 "establish the identity of the English European section").To achieve these priorities of the school plan, the European Development Plan, adopted in October 2014, intends to create two European classes around the scientific and technological branches in English, while achieving partnership projects with European countries, will be a key lever of success for students. Both European classes will be created around teachers involved in the general science course, technology and the European section open since 2010, led by a teacher already authorized. The establishment doesn’t only need teachers who can teach their majors partly or entirely in English, but also to identify European partners. After a 2nd surveys carried out in September 2015 among staff, 30 teachers agreed and have joined the project and the steering committee. 8 motivated teachers were identified to participate in this mobility following some English tests; all teachers have a level below B1 CEFR. They will be ambassadors for the other participants who do not leave. To teach in a European class, each participant must obtain an additional certification issued by the academic authorities, which attests to a level greater than or equal to B2 CEFR. C1 level CERL is targeted. The participants intend to bring added value to the institution, enrich their professional practices to improve student performance. To make the project successful, the project will set over 2 school years in two stages. In the first stage (June 2016-June 2017), 8 teachers will participate in English courses in the UK to get, in total immersion, a good language fluency. Although 4 weeks courses allow them to obtain undeniable progress in English, the end of this first training mobility will also be an indicator of their respective levels the CEFR. The 8 teachers continue their training in the academy by enrolling in Academic Training Plan (stage "teach a non-language subject in English"), 5 of them already are following this course in order to validate in April 2016 certification in English while taking distance courses. It is understood that the experience of the eight participants on their return benefits all participants. It is expected, for example, that other participants are invited to classes of the 8 teachers in teaching sequences in English. For all participants, the eTwinning platform will be used to identify three schools so as to engage in a partnership, and, at first, to work in the theme of the Copernican revolution. In the second stage (June 2017-June 2018), 8 participants will go to an observation training in partner institutions identified in Poland, Greece and Italy. English will be the only language of communication during the research work about the solar system and the Copernican revolution, a time also to get the CEFR level C1. Finally, these courses will be observing the opportunity to discover new teaching methods (group work, multidisciplinary, self-learning) and solidify the contacts established with European partner institutions contributing to better awareness of belonging to Europe as for staff and pupils. After both years of the training plan, our school will have many more teachers qualified to teach their subject in English and will get European partner institutions, improving the image of the facility. Students will have more lessons in English per week, which will raise their level of English. The project will end in establishing more training branches for our school and will motivate students who are reluctant to engage in scientific and technological means.
