Main road 70 Niirala border guard station land-use planning
Start date: Jan 31, 2003, End date: Aug 30, 2004 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main road 70 forms the main connection of the region of North Karelia to Niirala border station. The need for various traffic services has increased yearly due to the increase in the border traffic. The project aims at preparing for this demand by planning the land use and traffic arrangements near the border. The project will draw up a general plan concerning the land use in the area. The plan will safeguard functionality and development opportunities of the border station in the long term, taking into account the increase in the traffic and service development needs. Achievements: A master plan was created regarding the border area expansion and traffic arrangements, which can be used to determine the future land-use areas necessary for development. Customs, the Finnish Border Guard, Vrtsil Municipality, the Regional Council of North Karelia, Senate Properties and the Finnish Road Administration all actively participated in the planning process. During the planning process, a mutual understanding on a general master plan level was created regarding the land use necessary for the development of the area.
