Made in Europe !
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The economic crisis and its consequences on the EU have enhanced cultural and nationalist closures across Europe, characterized by a rise of political extremes, xenophobia and racism. The results of the last European elections were characterized as such by a significant rise of nationalist parties and a strong abstention. In this context, the project "Made in Europe" aims to engage a shared reflection on identity and European citizenship in order to promote mutual understanding and harmonious live-together among different cultures in particular taking into account the populations of extra European immigrations. The project will take place in Evry, Ile-de-France from 26th to 29th March 2014 and will gatherc young people aged 18-25 from 4 European countries, representing 8 towns and one organization of youth councils. The territory of the french “agglomeration” of Evry Centre Essonne can be a relevant and best example to address those problems and to contribute to the development of a strong European citizenship among the young in accordance with the specific features of the Europe of today. Indeed, 4 places of worship (Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, and Buddhists) and more than 70 nationalities are present in the area. Several important events are scheduled: after a friendly welcome meal shared with local authorities, participants will be mobilized within aninternational mobility forum, a debate on the issue of European cultural identity with the participation of political, scientific and associative experts, a seminar which will be dealt with the issue of inclusion of diversity in the construction of European citizenship and finally a multicultural evening show in which will be given the Youth Pass participants. A relaxing day will be dedicated to the visit of Evry Centre Essonne and to informal youth exchanges. By confronting the youth to other cultural realities, the project "Made in Europe" has the ambition to contribute to the fight against all forms of discrimination, to promote the active participation of young people in society and in discussion with decision-makers and finally to develop cross-disciplinary skills and soft skills among young people so that they are more willing to future geographical and professional mobility, for better employability.
