"Look What I Did!''-Portfolios in Nursery Schools
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Look What I Did!''-Portfolios in Nursery Schools is developed in cooperation with our partners ADC College based in London. Our purpose as a sending organization was to provide our students with the work placement abroad, so that they can learn about continuous (formative) assessment, in which the teacher regularly collects the products of child activities and evaluate them, forms child's pre-school portfolio. Continuous assessment is in nursery schools in Slovakia frequently absent and its contribution is not fully appreciated yet, although it is an important part of an effective process of education in the nursery. The project is designed for 16 third-year and fourth-year students at four-year graduation study in the teaching for kindergartens and tutoring. The main objective of the project is to promote quality and innovation in vocational training at our secondary school. The specific objectives of the project are mainly the improvement of communication skills; broadening the knowledge and skills necessary to direct educational activities with children in their field of the study, obtaining a better understanding of the continuous (formative) assessment and of different options in developing child's pre-school portfolio. Also they acquire greater self-confidence in the performance of their future profession to have better chances in the labour market. At the same time students get to know different levels of education, other forms of learning, different learning processes and different atmosphere relationships between teachers and pupils in nursery schools and thus gain international experience in the field, i.e. in real nursery schools. These objectives achieved by implementing major activities: choosing the topic methods to improve the quality of the project entitled "Look What I Did!''-Portfolios in Nursery Schools, exploring cultural diversity and using an approach through the school curriculum. The work placement will be held in London for a period of two weeks in February 2015. The project will also involve the teachers of English, who prepare students for language and cultural training course. Students through the course strengthen language skills, handle technical terminology in the field of pre- primary education and learn about cultural differences within Great Britain. Also develop a resume, complete the necessary forms and will be prepared to gain maximum knowledge, which then they use abroad. For a successful internship it is important to prepare the students best. During the internship the school will provide two accompanying persons whose task will be to monitor program, to communicate with the receiving organization ADC College and partner organizations, in which students will be during the work placement. The expected outcome of the project is to obtain a Europass-Mobility and a Europass CV for all participants and participating internship certificate from ADC College. Likewise, the students will acquire professional competence and active identification with the department that they study and are actively involved in the running of the institutions during mobility. Mobility should help deepen their professional knowledge and improve practical skills. Students will recognize different levels of education, other forms of learning, different learning processes and different atmosphere relationships between teachers and pupils in nursery schools in the UK. Based on the above they will be able to compare due to the mobility of working practices and systems of work in nursery schools in Slovakia and the UK.
