llution reduction of toxic substances by improvement of electrical lighting waste management in 8 counties of Hungary and Romania (BORDER LIGHT)
Start date: Feb 28, 2011, End date: May 30, 2012 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Project is designed to reduce pollution of hazardous waste in the Hungary-Romania border area by developing an integrated lamp waste management system. It addresses the same needs and environmental risks existing on both sides of the border with one, complex, joint waste management project. Local inhabitants will be educated by multiply means to increase willingness to collect and deliver hazardous waste. The newly established collection network will make it possible to respond to the increased collection demand, while the waste generated in the 8 counties participating in the HURO Programme would be treated in one single recycling facility. As a result of the project nearly 3.9 million inhabitants will benefit from an increased level of environmental protection.Direct beneficiaries of the awareness raising campaign are employees of the municipalities, pupils, students, electricians and members of the professional organizations, members of NGOs, media representatives, and the general public – summing up to about 100,000 – 200,000 people during the Project lifetime. Indirect beneficiaries would be the entire local population of the Programme Area (app. 3.9 million).
