Living with a smaller ecological footprint at school

The partnership is focused on the integration of ‘living on a smaller ecological footprint’ in the learning process and in concrete school life. This project will try to make students, teachers and school leaders more aware of their ecological footprints during their school days. By a variety of practical and creative methods they will evaluate their present habits on energy, sustainable mobility, food, nature at school, waste, saving water: 'the big 6'. Together, students and teachers of the partner schools will learn from good experiences in the participating European countries. The experience gained should help generate a long-term interest and commitment to the environment. As a common result of the network learning, we will develop educational instruments and tools to integrate the issue of 'living on a smaller ecological footprint’ in our learning curricula and in the concrete school life. On school level we will investigate systems and procedures for an ecological school audit and work out qualitative indicators for the assessment. The learning in the partnership will be enriched by the different context of the participating organisations: different cultural regions of the EU are on board and while hosting the multilateral network meetings this factor will support the clear and enriching picture of the European dimension of caring for the environment and the European ecological footprint. We expect this project to result in a commitment towards a more conscious way of living with our environment and our planet and a better guidance of young people towards this. The shared intercultural experience during the partnership, students and teachers will never forget and this experience will lead them to steps into lifelong learning.
