Living Together in community
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

De Ark Antwerpen (l'Arche) is a community where people with and without mental disabilities work and live together. They share daily life and help each other when needed. De Ark Antwerpen has three houses and one daycare center in the Antwerp region. The volunteers will be joining us through the Erasmus+ project. Just like our own staff, they will live together with the others who live in the house, both people with and without disabilities. The goal is to share their daily life with these people, and assist them where needed. They will be part of a team and will be coached by their house responsible and the assistants coordinator. The tasks of the participants will vary. The main activity is spending time together with the people with disabilities (e.g. playing a game, cooking together). They will also assist them where needed (e.g. bathing), and do some household tasks (e.g. cleaning). Participants will be part of the team and therefore also attend team meetings. The goal of this project is to broaden the social network of people with disabilities and to integrate them more into our society. Participants through the Erasmus+ program will learn to broaden their vision on the world and people around them, to look different towards people, and to build lasting relationships with people who are different from them. They will also learn practical skills of caregiving.
