"Life Chaning Volunteering for Refugees"
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project ˝Life Changing Volunteering for Refugees˝ was a short-term project for one volunteer in the period between 15th October and 14th December 2014 and along-term project from 1st October 2014 until 31st August 2015 for the second volunteer. Both of the volunteers were from Croatia and in this project they have joined the Youth Association DRONI from Tbilisi in Georgia where the project took place. Since 2008 when the Russian-Georgian conflict took place, large numbers of Georgians left their home and are still currently in the status of IDP (Internally Displaced People). The objectives of the project was to support youth and children having the refugee or IDP status to see new opportunities for themselves, to try out methods of non-formal education, and to gain new perspectives and knowledge with the support of the volunteers. The volunteers in this project were creating and implementing activities of non-formal education, with the aim to promote EVS, to promote intercultural learning, to promote inclusion. The topics of their activities were English or other language classes, they organised presentations in schools and universities. What we have achieved through this project is visibility of EVS project – meanwhile DRONI supported 3 young people to go for EVS because of the presentations held by the volunteers. The project has impacted the local community, brought methods of forum theater in local schools. It also had a great impact on the volunteers and the participating organisations in terms of professional and personal growth. Long-term benefits of the project is strengthened cooperation between the organisation, development of non-formal education and volunteering projects.
