Letters from the world: Global education through reading clubs

Letters From the World focus themes are global education and development for youth. Ghanian grass-root Kongo Community Development Association (KoCDA) will host two volunteers for four month in rural Kongo village with inhabitancy around 7000 people.Volunteers main objectives is to initiate, plan and hold global education themed reading clubs and related non-formal education activities for the community youth. Materials are from NGO Mondo and Kongo village library. Also to give beginners computer and internet introduction courses at community PC class. The project is founded on the idea of cultural exchange and youth empowerment, creating opportunities and a shared learning experience to bridge the North-South experience of development. It is an opportunity to learn of global topics and simultaneously contribute to the village community development and global awareness. The volunteers will work closely with the members of the local volunteer based NGO KoCDA. They will be given the opportunity to actively participate in the current development and education projects of KoCDA and NGO Mondo in Estonia. Therefore, in addition to global awareness, social skills and cultural experience, the service will give a hands-on NDGO experience and practical skills as global educator. After the return NGO Mondo offers volunteers a chance to participate in the global education activities.
