Let´s hold hands in the community development
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Apr 16, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The citizen association “Active city”, within the European Voluntary Service as a CO/HO, submitted a project about 3 volunteers with different interests and personal orientations. Volunteers from Caucasus countries (Armenia and Georgia) and a volunteer from Bulgaria have set a project based on the association´s leisure time opportunities as well as the casual applicant´s activities following the introductory schedule. The project setting also respected the skills and participants´ wishes to perform the chosen activities. The project´s main task was to change both – the number and the quality of opportunities for self-development of the local community as well as to extend the diversity of the activities and events and at last but not least to take the place of gradually expirable TREND Leisure Centre. In the future we would like to cooperate with this centre. Nowadays the centre is working but it is focused on sport activities and various competitions - Olympics. The project was implemented in the Detva community including less stimulating environment of marginalized Roma community living around the Štúrova Street. The target group included children and the youth, people with various disabilities working in interest groups, leisure time activities, and school facilities. There is also general public involved which constantly supports the development of the community. The main aim of the project was to improve language skills and computer skills and experiences of the target group as well as general public through interest groups (their activities) provided by the applicant. The project contributed to building more stimulating environment for the youth from Detva. There has been much wider space created for casual activities and learning, art activities of the volunteers. Another benefit of the project can be seen in new interior/exterior design of the premises of partnership organisations. The volunteers learnt Slovak language. Volunteers improved their English speaking skills. They were leaders of interest groups and were given a chance to coordinate their own activities during the EVS. The volunteers also participated in the international teaching of children and youth together with preparing various events or other interests oriented activities aimed at the local community. The project developed and introduced new technologies in education and culture. The volunteers helped us with the presentation of applicant's activities Either by means of Facebook page promotion or web page. www.aktivnemesto.org.
