Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Apr 5, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Geothermal energy is used direct or indirectly in many different areas and for a diversity of purposes such as hot spring (according to the degree of heat), health, tourism, industry, agriculture (especially in the heating and drying purposes), chemicals production, greenhouse heating, the seasonal heat storage, electricity production. Geothermal energy usage is known as the seamless usage of energy in terms of ecology, and the most renewable energy source with minimal carbon emissions. Our country is among the top 10 countries in the world with geothermal potential. As well as, in the use of geothermal it is the 5th in the world and 1st in Europe. We -as being the local people living in Afyon where geothermal energy is used the most intense manner in Turkey- plan to share our knowledge and experience on how to use this geothermal energy in different business areas, mutually with young people from different EU member countries where they use Geothermal in their countries. While sharing the experience we plan to give the participants inspirations on entrepreneurship and employment. In that way we encourage participants to have creative ideas and create long-term partnerships for the possible future projects. Also with the meeting of local young people from Afyon and their new friends from different European Union countries we would like to encourage young people about active participation on policy making in their countries and EU level by providing information on EU citizenship and the rights related to it. We’ll introduce EU values and EU citizenship through the participants themselves. In this way, we believe young people will be more participatory to democratic system. In total 38 young people will be participating in the event. Our local participants will be chosen from fewer opportunities background likehaving economic, social, geographical, educational barriers. Non-formal educational technics will be applied in the project. We plan to lay the groundwork for future Key Action-2 projects by using the contents of our workshops which are EU citizenship workshop, youth unemployment and new business opportunities workshop, intercultural night activities, brainstorming on renewable sources of energy, discussion groups. After the project we expect young people to have creative entrepreneurial ideas on new business areas and on how to use renewable energy sources in business sector. And we expect more mutual understanding by getting rid of prejudices and stereotypes against different cultures. We hope young people get to know each other better this way so that they will shape their future all together in such an environment.
