A central focus of our school is the cooperation with various schools throughout Europe. Due to this, our school has been carrying out Comenius-projects since 1995. The language skills of our teachers facilitate the cooperative work. In addition to languages, our teachers learn more about the variety of cultures and traditions of our partner countries. The following project proposal aims to dispatch six teachers to various locations. Two teachers want to improve their English skills because the English language is essential for European cooperation. One colleague wants to do an English course in order to enhance her CLIL-competences. An English teacher wishes to do a teacher training course in Canterbury to improve her own English and to deepen her knowledge of new teaching methods and thereby teach students more effectively. Our Italian teacher wants to enrol in an intensive course for teachers in Italy to refine her didactical and methodological competences as well as her language skills. Another teacher, the elearning coordinator of our school, wishes to do the course ‘ICT for Collaborative, Project Based, Teaching and Learning’ in Malta, in order to enhance her IKT and elearning skills. This course would enrich her work in school as well as her projects in etwinning and the European Schoolnet. All teachers desire to do the above mentioned courses in their leisure time to improve their teaching in Austria and to develop international cooperation. Furthermore, English skills are vital for our current Comenius project because English is used as the working language. Additionally, English is important in the economy and benefits teaching, for instance when conducting research or working together internationally. Moreover, many of our students have a migrant background, thus making English crucial for communication in our school. The language teachers and their students benefit from the didactical training as new methods motivate the students and the teachers. In addition, improved language skills lead to modern teaching methods and inspire our educational staff as well as our students. Some students show a great interest in cooperative work within Europe, participate in the programmes and establish close friendships with students from all over Europe. In conclusion, the valuable experiences our teachers have gained during their education in foreign countries continue to influence work with students and reinforce the European state of mind.
