Lernen mit digitalen Medien
Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

In order to prepare our students for the demands of the future, we, the Auguste-Viktoria-Schule in Flensburg, are focussing more and more on digital media. Due to the digitalisation of the world, modern school has to face multiple challenges. Especially those students of our school who live in the more rural areas around Flensburg would benefit from digital media that offers them additional ways to be part of the international community. On the other hand, modern media needs to meet competent students, who know how to use these technologies. It is our job as their teachers to help them acquire these skills, this also includes a critical awareness of the protection of data privacy and copy right. Our school received an award from the Ministry of Education and hence carries the title “Modellschule für digitales Lernen”, model school for digital learning. The monetary prize that came with the title made it possible for us to expand our technical infrastructure. The next step would be to teach the teachers to use the new equipment and make it part of their lessons in a most productive way. We have realized that other European countries are further ahead in using and integrating modern media in their schools and would love to take part in international education and further training. We hope to gain from our neighbours’ experiences and hence catch up quickly. Especially foreign language teachers are looking forward to authentic international communication, e.g. using eTwinning platforms in their lessons. It is becoming more and more important for us and our students to think internationally and consider ourselves not only German, but part of the European community. This is where we see our future. The teachers of the AVS who would gladly participate in the training program that you are offering will be passing on their newly acquired skills and knowledge to their colleagues at school. Special training days will be designated to fulfil this purpose. There will also be a designated team to be in charge of the whole project. We would coordinate the internal training, its documentation and the implementation of the measures agreed on for our digital school life. Furthermore, we would make sure to pass on our skills and knowledge to colleagues of other institutions that are our school’s co-operation partners, such as the Europa-Universität in Flensburg, the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, the Westcoast University, the IQSH Schleswig-Holstein and the regional newspaper company „Der Schleswig-Holsteinische Zeitungsverlag“.
