Lenguas Extranjeras, la llave de Europa.
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

IES Pérez Galdós is a State school which comprises Secondary Education, Higher Education and VET courses. Our project is based mainly on two aspects: staff training and job shadowing. The seventeen enthusiastic teachers that will be participating in the project are mainly foreign language teachers and CLIL teachers of other subjects rather than English. The main objectives of the project are to avoid school leaving and combating failure in education, to handle problems teaching in a variety of different situations and work in an ever changing climate in which the needs of the pupils have to come first, to enhance social inclusion and equal opportunities, to gain knowledge of the different approaches on the teaching of Foreign Language methodology, to improve teachers' foreign language skills, and to get to know the new advances in Education in Europe in order to compare them with our own system . In order to achieve all these expectations we intend to attend lessons at a foreign school and have debates, do observation and workshops as part of our job shadowing. Regarding staff training, we have combined attendance to short length courses (7 or 14 days) focusing on either methodological or linguistic approaches, with attendance to Teacher Training Conferences. As a follow-up to the mobilities teachers will also do workshops, lectures, peer classroom observation, evaluation and assessment questionnaires, and we will invite other teachers of our Community to share our experiences. We expect this project to help teachers broaden students minds and see Europe as a future opportunity, to make both teachers and students aware of the necessity of learning foreign languages for their own benefit, and to establish bonds with other European teachers for future cooperation.
