Lehrerfortbildung zur Stärkung der interkulturellen Handlungskompetenz und des kommunikativen Fremdsprachenlernens durch IKT gestützte Projekte im Unterricht
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This two-year school educational staff training project aims at improving the ICT skills and competences of teachers of modern foreign languages and in bilingual classes. Through the use of BYOD the participants will develop new and better teaching methods and innovative approaches to foreign language teaching. By visiting our partner school in Nijmegen internatinal contacts between schools will be strenghtened and teachers and students will explore a common view of the European dimension of foreign language learning. The sending school has already developed a new concept of how to use and integrate ICT and BYOD in teaching and learning but has not yet have any experience in implementing BYOD. Some foreign language teachers have already worked with ICT, e.g. in the form of etwinning projects, but up to now only a small number of teachers has got this experience. The project aims at a critical number of teachers in order to achieve a sustainable development of foreign language teaching with ICT at Krupp-Gymnasium. The participants are asked to develop a task/content-based ICT project for one of their language learning groups before their stay at the host school. During their stay in Nijmegen they will shadow foreign language classes that use ICT / BYOD and inform themselves about technological necessities and possibilities. As soon as the participants are back at their school they will conduct the ICT project in one of their learning groups. Having finished the ICT projects the participants will multiply their skills through an internal training for their foreign language colleagues, reporting on their experiences in the partner school and on the evaluation of the ICT project. On the basis of peer-evaluation new and further ideas for task/content based ICT projects will be developed among the teachers of the foreign language department. The school will look for adequate education opportunities for those teachers who will participate in European training courses. They are meant to find future partners for task/contenct based ICT projects (e.g. via etwinning) and will share their newly gained skills of using ICT in foreign language teaching with the other teachers of the foreign language department. Thus students of foreign languages The overall objective of the staff training is to initialise long-term proccesses that initiate a change in learning and teaching methods in the foreign languages at Krupp-Gymnasium towards a more communicative and international approach. As a large group of teachers is involved the project's outcomes will be a benefit for students of all age groups and the outcomes will affect the use of ICT / BYOD in other subjects, too, as all teachers involved have a second subject apart from a foreign language. Thus, students, teachers, and the school as a whole will benefit from the outcomes of the above mentioned training programme.
