Lehrerfortbildung im sprachlichen und methodischen Bereich
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Märkische Grundschule, Staatliche Europaschule Berlin, is a primary school in Berlin, where the pupils are taught bilingually in German and French by native speakers. Our student body is composed of Germans, French and African children. Concerning the English lessons there is special at our school. Usually the primary schools in Berlin start their English lessons in the 3rd class with the so called "Früh-Englisch" ( "early-English"), but at our school the English lessons don't start before the 5th class. That means that at the beginning of the 5th class the missing two years of "Früh-Englisch" must be worked off so that the pupils will be at the same level like pupils from ordinary primary schools at the end of the 6th class (in Berlin the secondary schools begin with the 7th class). The possible schoolbooks for the 5th class are based on two years of "Früh-Englisch", so that there must be developed an internal teaching method for English. For this reason we expect inspiring impulses for this work particularly with regard to the pupils of non-German origin. The teaching staff can realize these impulses by and within an intern school curriculum. With regard to the different origins and school experiences of our pupils it might be helpful to find out something about the English teaching methods in other European countries. The participant of this project has been teaching at our school for many years and since 2010 she has been the chairwoman of the department of English at our school.
