One person participated in a Teacher Refresher Course for Secondary School teachers of English. The venue was London, capital of England. The course included information on language, UK education systems as well as culture and history. The lessons were highly interesting, instructive and informative. They were motivating and insightful. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The lessons were held in English and also included one-on-one tuition. Participants spoke English all the time. Social activities and cultural excursions were part of the training. The course was very practical and interactive, consisting of input sessions, workshops, mini teaching practice sessions and tutorials, focused mainly on the following: -modern teaching methodologies, such as blended learning -tips on teaching grammar, lexis and all four skills -latest learning and teaching materials, critical evaluation of resources -focussed phonology sessions to help students enhance their pronunciation and reduce accents -using a combination of traditional and latest classroom technology including interactive whiteboards -feedback with a clear vocational focus 20 teachers and university students at the age of 25-65 participated in the course. A guided tour through London, focussing on modern architecture, a visit to a pub and some evening meals and further activities were included in the programme. On successful completion of the course, each participant received a list of useful activities and websites and a Bloomsbury International certificate and had the opportunity to join a Europe/UK-wide network. One person participated in a Language Course in French in Nice, France. The course included information on language, education and governmental systems as well as culture and history. The lessons were highly interesting, instructive and informative. They were motivating and insightful. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The lessons were held in French and also included one-on-one tuition. Participants spoke French all the time. Social activities and cultural excursions and guided tours in the afternoon and in the evenings were part of the programme. The course was very practical and interactive, consisting of input sessions, workshops, mini teaching practice sessions and tutorials, focused mainly on the following: - speech production - grammar, lexis and useage -focussed phonology sessions to help students enhance their pronunciation and reduce accents -using a combination of traditional and latest classroom technology including interactive whiteboards -feedback with a clear vocational focus 10 teachers and university students at the age of 19 - 62 participated in the course. On successful completion of the course, each participant received a booklet, a list of useful activities and websites and a certificate. The course was highly effective and as a result the participant's language competence in French has risen to a vast extent. Three teachers participated in a programm called Annual Immersion Course in Edinburgh for Secondary School teachers of English. The venue was Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, a UNESCO World Heritage City. The course included information on the different UK education systems and also on Scotland’s culture and history. The courses were fun and motivating and took place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The training sessions were delivered in English. Participants were encouraged to speak English as much as possible in social situations and on the cultural excursions. objectives: • To update participants’ competence and discursive skills in English • To enhance methodological expertise in the teaching of English • To update vocabulary, consolidate and gain new ideas and materials for use in the classroom • To use internet and other ICT resources in class • To use published, authentic and audio-visual material in class • To develop cultural awareness and understanding of contemporary Britain • To share experience and ideas with colleagues from other European regions 43 teachers at the age of 25-60 participated in the course. A guided bus tour of Edinburgh and East Lothian's castles and coastlines, a visit to a book shop and some evening meals and activities were included in the programme. The teachers received a certificate at the end of the week and they had the opportunity to join a Europe/UK-wide network.
