The proposed EVS project “Learning How to Grow in Garden” supports developing the potential of volunteers to gain valuable experience, and bring their own personal contribution to the lively field of independent cultural scene in Slovakia. The project reflects the needs of the local community and operation of the cultural centre in relation to the volunteers, giving them opportunities to be motivated. There will be two volunteers hosted, one from France (8 months) and one from Italy (12 months). The cultural centre has a venue, where concerts, performances, discussions, workshops and festivals are organized. The volunteers have chance to contribute to its daily operation as well as initiate projects on their own. The main objective of the project is to develop key competencies of the volunteers, mainly enterpreneurship, cultural and civic awareness and learning to learn, through practical involvement in activities such as preparation of the program, organizing events, outdoor and leisure activities for the locals, technical assistance, and work with youth. In addition, the project has an aspect of social inclusion whereas cultural centre is a meeting spot for various communities, who belong to the target audience. Working with them will also be a challenging learning experience. The main themes of the project include arts and crafts, creativity, environment, active citizenship, youth democracy, use of public spaces, community development, and healthy lifestyle. The volunteers will carry out tasks and activities related to these issues.
