Learning EU's ABC@School: Education for Democracy, Citizenship and Diversity - YOU(th) for EU
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Feb 28, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Learning EU’s ABC@School: Education for Democracy, Citizenship and Diversity, YOU(th) for EU, (YOU4EU) is dedicated to the secondary school system and wishes to implement a more interesting, sustainable strategy for teaching EU studies in Romanian high schools. The project responds to the need for integrated training of students by combining the methods of formal and non-formal education and to the adaptation of national training standards to European ones in order to facilitate the transfer of know-how and good practices from the university to the pre-university system. The objectives of this project are to inform and prepare future active citizens of the EU, as well as to train professors to teach EU courses using means of formal and non-formal education. The innovation of this project lies in combining the methods of formal with those of non-formal education and the application of the pilot project “A Different School ”– “Be a better EU citizen” in the 2014-2015 school year, in 17 upper secondary schools in Transylvania. The second element of innovation is the PhotoVoice seminar and Photovoice volume. The good practices will be disseminated through the 5 TV appearances, the documentary made at the end of the project and released on the YOU4EU website.25 secondary school teachers will be trained in four working sessions: a workshop on formal and non-formal education (transfer of best practices in teaching EU at school); a thematic PhotoVoice seminar “The photo that tells your story in the EU” (an activity which is practically unknown in Romania) with PhotoVoice volume “The European citizen model”, a seminar on a pilot project “A Different School ”– “Be a better EU citizen” (to be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year in all 17th high-school partners); Jean Monnet teaching lecture series on European studies with a textbook “Learning EU at School-Education for Democracy, Citizenship and Diversity” and a closing session “”(Re)Thinking EU like a part of YOU".
