Learning English in Quessoy
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school welcomes pupils between the ages of 2 and 11. The school is located in a rural setting. Children come from very different social environments. The team is composed of a head teacher, 8 teachers, 3 nursery helpers, 2 EVS (School Aids) and one housekeeper.Only 3 teachers are allowed to teach English in our primary school. These teachers ensure organizational English learning in their class and are involved in other classes as well. These three teachers have obtained their certificate to teach English during their initial training 10 years ago. None of them has received a refresher course to update their skills in teaching English language. This training will enable the teachers to update not only their linguistic proficiency but their professional skills to teach a foreign language too. Between 2010 and 2012, the head of the school has already leaded a European project with English, Norwegian and Irish primary schools and he wants to renew the experience. He has been able to evaluate the impact of such a project on pupils, teachers and parents’ motivation as well as a real improvement of the children‘s English skills. The mobility project will be the first step of a multipartnership in English. It will help teachers to update their skills in the English language but also in the way to teach. Thus, it will be easier to involve them in this exchange project with other primary schools in Europe. Two teachers will have a course in data processing; they will be able to update our site on E-Twinning.The aim of the project is part of the more general educational project of our school that promotes the opening on the world by teaching a foreign language, in that case the English language and by developing skills in ITC. This educational project will be built over several years, allowing our pupils to find their place in tomorrow’s society and bringing together the educational team: teachers, staff and families.
