ΛΑΣ: Λακωνικό Αγροτουριστικό Σχέδιο LAS: Laconian Agrotourism Scheme
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

An academic research based on the Laconian market has shown that the development of an alternative tourism model based on the agricultural sector and feasible for the SME, which is the average business of the region, is needed for the sustainable development of the area. The Chamber of Laconia aiming at the development of the region has the ambition to develop and implement a project for the vocational training of small and medium tourism enterprises through the mobility in Europe. This project will give the chance to owners and managers of tourism cottages as well as to professional counselors of the Chamber and members of tourism unions of the area to get a professional training of two weeks and attend study visits to enterprises of excellence in the area of Tuscan, Italy. Additionally, they will attend the annual expo of Agrotourism in Tuscan, the most developed area of Europe in agrotourism. The participants through their key role will be able to train their seasonal staff in dealing with the new tourism model and offering the agrotourism tourists high quality services. The new agrotourism-ecotourism model will prolong the tourism season and develop the winder tourism. Aim of the project is the transfer of knowledge and experience of foreign agrotourism enterprises to the locals in order for the latter to include in their services alternative high quality experiences for the tourists based on the characteristics of the local community, culture, nature and history. The participants will get familiar with the profile of agro tourist and they will be able to cover better their needs and promote the identity of the area which is based on tourism, agriculture and nature. For the implementation of the proposed project will be cooperate with an intermediary organization in Tuscan which is represented in 10 areas of the region. This organization will receive the participants and place them to enterprises. Additionally, they will visit the annual Agrotourism Expo. The Chamber as sending organization will undertake the selection of the participants, their preparation and their training before leaving, as well as the continuous support during their mobility. It will also undertake the dissemination and exploitation of the results in all the members and the local community. The project is expected to have a positive impact in the area of Laconia, Peloponnese and all over Greece since it is expected to boost tourism in Greece. The local community will benefit from the economic development that will occur from the extension of the tourism season, the winder tourism and the alternative tourism in mountainous areas. Agrotourism in mountainous areas will also stop the abandonment of the mountainous villages, bringing to residents a decent income. Furthermore, we wish that the proposed project combined with the running project for the development of exportations of agricultural products, will contribute to the creation of a united place identity for Laconia that will link tourism with agriculture and nature.
