Our fellow countrymen who live abroad can offer a valuable historical and cultural heritage which should not be wasted. The Associazione Veneziani nel mondo (Association of Venetians in the World) has chosen a web site, www.lapiazzamercato.it, as the most effective tool of communication and association among Venetians and other people living in Northeastern Italy, for them to rediscover and share their common identity and principles. This project is first of all targeted at the istrovenetian community of Slovenia and the exiles/migrants who have left these lands, scattered in the world and deprived of love and human sympathy after the second world war. The purpose is not uprooting the Italian community from its cultural, social and economic context, but rather fostering a more active role of the population in the mutual and effective integration required by the European membership. The aspects of the daily, social and cultural life we intend to highlight can be shared by the Veneto region and Slovenia. All the services provided by the web site are accessible both to the Italian and to the Slovenian citizens. A similar initiative will then be undertaken in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, setting up a network which connects Istrovenetian and Slovenian bodies, associations and organizations, as well as associations and organizations belonging to the Slovenian minority and to the population of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions, that can ensure continuity, visibility, harmonization and mutual support to the economy and the society of the three areas concerned.
