lanning and monitoring of the Transnational Park Gran Monte - Natisone (Planning and monitoring of the Transnational Park Gran Monte - Natisone)
Start date: Jun 30, 2003, End date: Jul 30, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project envisages the formulation of a plan for the Transnational Park to be later established and managed. The identification of the area requires the transposition and the inclusion of the existing urban instruments, such as the Areas of Considerable Environmental Interest and the existing municipal and intermunicipal parks. The Park area will therefore include the Municipal Park of Gran Monte - Rio Bianco in the Municipality of Taipana; the intermunicipal Park of the Lerada stream in the Municipalities of Attimis, Faedis and Taipana; the Area of considerable environmental interest of Forra del Pradolino and Monte Mia in the Municipality of Pulfero; the Area of considerable environmental interest of Forra del Cornappo in the Municipality of Nimis and the site of Monte Matajur in the Municipality of Savogna and Pulfero. After defining the borders of the area, the most suitable management method of the park will be chosen, followed by the creation of an open databank and, by means of aircraft flights, common mapping tools will be prepared and an environmental monitoring will be performed. The project aims at the gradual set up of a Transnational Park for the protection and the enhancement of existing naturalistic, landscape, rural and historical aspects. The integration and synergy between the enhancement of the natural and rural environment and the reasonable and sustainable development of tourism seems to be the best therapy to put an end to the isolation of this border area which, more than other adjacent areas, has suffered because of the well known phenomena of depopulation, land abandonment and productive depletion.
