Language Training
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

I am completed a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in French from the University of Edinburgh and I would like to take part in the Le Francais En Ecosse (LFEE) intensive three-week residential programme in Spain with the view to completing an approved period of residency to gain full registration in Spanish with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). I would like to build upon my experience in the learning and teaching of my first language to enhance my ability to teach Spanish to young people by embedding the target language into the school curriculum. As the uptake for Spanish courses has increased over the years and with the introduction of the Modern Languages 1+2 approach in Scotland, educational bodies are encouraging staff to develop professionally in this area and this would be an opportunity to help implementing long-term benefits in Robert Gordon's College. For instance, the teaching of Spanish would develop students' cultural awareness and understanding of another European country, it would benefit high-achieving students in terms of National Qualifications but the teaching of Spanish would also benefit students who would prefer continuing their education through a vocational course as they would be provided with skills for learning, life, and work. This three-week immersion course additionally provides new ways of embedding Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the language curriculum. This aspect will be helpful in terms of professional development as well as finding partner schools abroad, and it will also provide students with an opportunity to communicate with other schools and secondary students abroad.
