Language Training
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

There will be two teachers from the school attending the training course, who will be able to embed the teaching and methodologies of the Spanish language into wider school life, as well as through more formal lessons. These teachers will be responsible for driving the Spanish curriculum forward within the school and ensuring other teaching staff develop the confidence to teach Spanish within their own classrooms using a variety of methods throughout the entire school week, rather than during only one lesson. By doing so, our school will be able to deliver the Scottish Government's 1+2 MFL Policy, which follows in the footsteps of several other European countries. Upon return from the course, teachers will ensure E-Twinning is explored and that the children have access to conversing with native Spanish speakers via GLOW email, social media and video conferencing. Overall, Spanish language and aspects of Spanish culture will be embedded throughout the full school rather than solely during a 50 minute lesson once per week. There will be physical evidence throughout the school of a European dimension, as well as practical activities taking place by all classes throughout the full academic year. By embedding Spanish throughout the full school and by placing it with high importance in the School Improvement Plan, this will ensure our pupils are fully exposed to the language and culture of Spain alongside their own Scottish culture and English language. They will be fully immersed in languages and cultures other than their own, which is the ultimate goal of the Scottish Government's 2+1 MFL Policy.
