Language Training
Start date: Jul 1, 2015, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Clydagh National School is a small rural school with big ambitions! Small schools such as ours have been the subject of severe budgetary cut in recent years. Despite this we are endeavouring to provide the children in our school with the very best that we as educators can offer. We believe that language learning is a key tool in the unlocking of young minds. Our overall aim is to provide the best possible quality in modern language teaching using methodologies which enhance the learning experience for the child. The participant in this mobility was awarded a first class honours post graduate diploma in the teaching of French at primary level. Her commitment to integrating French into the curriculum at Clydagh National School has not been deterred by the discontinuance of the MLPSI in Ireland. This mobility has been a wonderful tool in bridging the gap left for schools in Ireland who are committed to modern language teaching as it provided excellent CPD in the context of total immersion. The mobility consisted of a week long course in Salignac,France .The course objectives were mirrored by what was needed by the participant. Methodological expertise in the teaching of French to young learners was improved. The participant was provided with materials and ideas for the teaching of French. She has since adapted these to enhance the teaching and learning of Gaeilge throughout the school. Cultural awareness and understanding of contemporary France were explored. The French Primary Education system was discussed. The participants language competence and confidence was greatly enhanced. ICT as a teaching and learning resource was an integral part of the course. Participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas and new language learning networks were formed. The whole school community and indeed the wider community benefited greatly from this project. There is a renewed interest and enthusiasm in language learning.Communication with our local, regional and European teaching colleagues has been facilitated and a European learning platform has emerged from a little school on the shores of Lough Corrib in the west of Ireland!!
