Language for Education
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background and objective of the project are the enhancement of lesson quality in heterogeneouse lerning groups through an immersion course in Scotland in accordance with Key Action1 Mobility projects in the fields of school education, vocational education and training, adult education and youth of the Erasmus+ programm . An English curriculum that is based on the requirements of the individual learner can be seen as precursor of operating competently in the European realm. Competent and intercultural teachers are the imperative basis for this. The undertaken training course is an important step in this process and pursues various objectives for the participating teacher as well as the institution: - input of innovative lesson methods in order to impart foreign language competences - increasing the participant’s foreign language competences (linguistic flexebility and idiomacy) - integrating authentic international experiences in lessons - initiating refection processes of learners and teacher in accordance with the European dimension - competence-oriented diagnostic and enhancement of learners - incorporating heterogeneous learners individuality in a way that is beneficial for the group. The participant plays an important multiplicator function in the project as English subject leader and English subject advisor for primary schools. Realistic results of training course in Scotland would i.e. be the integration of the topic “European mobility” and video exchanges with pupils from other countries or training courses for teachers in my capacity as subject advisor (English) in my region. The course included the development of discursive skills, an update in terms of methodology as well as an exchange of ideas for good practice in the primary English classroom. (Inter-)cultural aspects played a central role in the course as well as the cultural activities such as museum visits. The above specified objectives were largely met due to the participation in the “immersion course”. The enhancement and development of linguistic and cultural competences are of particular benefit to the participant. The practical Topics of the course, additionally, provided many stimuli for the lesson practice. The exchange of information regarding educational systems and lesson methods and didactics with English teachers from Germany and the EU were particularly insightful and beneficial. The training course, therefore, had a great impact on the linguistic quality of the participant’s English lessons and contributed significantly towards the effective inclusion of multicultural aspects in the classroom.
