Lakes and parklands along the border, revitalization of Szamos dead channels (BODEN1)
Start date: Apr 30, 2011, End date: Feb 27, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the project is the rehabilitation of an area of 4000 ha - having scarce waters, or by contrary water in excess - located between the Romanian collecting canals and the Hungarian closing dam, creation of such an infrastructure which makes possible the widespread utilisation of the area. The formed “natural park” would ensure intensive development possibility in the surroundings; it would create new working places, attracting investors and at the same time, a much more effective and cheaper water management of inland waters would be ensured. The general objective is to improve the cross-border relations, while the specific objectives are connected to implementation of cross-border water management, creation of bicycle trails and educational paths on both sides of the border. The project makes possible a joint integrated water management, creating new transport facilities between the two countries. The socio-economic elements will be re-activated in the border region. The bicycle trail could be part of a tourist network crossing the border at several locations, which would contribute to the disappearance of borders and creating possibilities for direct connections between people and communities on both sides of the border. The main activities of this project are: channel rehabilitation; building objects; building 7 km bicycle roads; creation of paths; rehabilitation logistic centre. The target groups are the citizens of the towns and villages near the border
