Our school is located in a socially safe area and we can see the need to expand the students’ horizon. The students have problems with changing their perspective of others and lack the ability to understand things that are unfamiliar and different. Many of our students are used to get what they want and have problems with understanding what it can be like to have it worse than they, both socially and economically. Through this project we will give the students a wider horizon were they learn that what we are doing right here and know can have an impact on others. When we integrate sustainability in to reading and writing skills the students understanding for different conditions will increase. We are six staff members with different experience, gender, and education who find these topics very important. After completing the course in Education for a more just and sustainable world we will pass our knowledge to the rest of our collogues by making a plan over how we will combine sustainability with reading and writing skills. A theme project will give us a quick start with the students. Using the theme will lead to that sustainability becomes a natural part of the curriculum. Each month we will follow the progress in the project especially the reading and writing skills. The project will give us, our colleagues our students a wider horizon when it comes to sustainability, solidarity and multi culture. The main goal for the project is to make practicing reading and writing skills more interesting and anchored in reality. That will lead to better results, bigger awareness and understanding about how different life can be in other parts of the world.
