La Robótica en la escuela: nueva puerta al futuro
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The development of specific projects and specially in technology and robotics help students at risk of school drop to motivate and re-engage the studies. Especially boys, who are attracted by computers, but not by books and have poor social skills. These initiatives make them a link with the school and help them to work toghether with their class partners. As they can show their habilities children go from being marginalized in the classroom to be admired children. It should also be noted that an international dimension of projects becomes even more attractive.Furthermore, the project will use to improve the application of new methodologies applied in other countries and which may be useful in our centre. Especially for the introduction of English in the classroom. We carry several courses offering the robotics project within the framework of the subjects of computer science and technology from 1 to 4 of the ESO (12-16 years old), the most critical courses in school failure. The problem is that our teachers have been learning self-taught and have reached a point where they require further training. Find training in robotics is complicated, because it is a very specific topic. That is why we have searched in Europe and taking advantage of the Erasmus + program to train our teachers of Sciences department. After that, they can move this training to their collagues and later to as many students as possible. Not only technology teachers are involved, but other school members are also interested in learning new methods for their subjects. Therefore they can also beneficiate of the visits.Yet we seek targets in the medium and long term, the desired impact is to achieve these goals:- Reduce school failure in the centere between 20 and 30%.- To train future professionals, increasing the number of students who take the branch of science.- Improve the capacity of teamwork. We observe through the courses, if participants integrate better in cooperative groups that take place in school.- Improving social skills. Reduce the number of students who automarginan in our classrooms. Today it is around 10%, and the idea is to reduce by half in three years.- Improve the language skills, especially English, as the language of the project is English. The school introduces students to the certification tests in English, the project aims to increase by 10% within 4 years.- Create European membership in our students. We will know if this object has achieved through an initial and final survey in which it asked whether they would be willing to work outside of Spain. We hope that the result reaches 100% of afirmative answers. In addition to the impact it has on our students, impact in society is given by the possibility of robotic shows for a general audience, which may arouse interest other teenagers on the subject. Achieving titles in competitions, which would allow us to have greater dissemination and attractive for other students. How we intend to train our teachers to achieve these goals? We have contacted with 4 partners to offer us its experience in the field of technology and robotics training. Also we take the opportunity to study how each centre addressed the issue of motivation in the face of studies and integration of students with difficulties.Planned activities during visits to 3 schools:- Make a Job- shadowing in different kinds of technology and programming.- Receive training on how to perform robotic projects.- Learn first hand the treatment they have with unmotivated students and the possibility of school failure.- Receive training on the methodology used in the classes, especially teamwork and designation of roles.- As working parents the student-teacher ratio.- Receiving training in design, to manufacture the circuit. In Denmark, and this school is very careful design.- Teaching and learning methodologies in class.- Exhibition of previous projects.- Preparation for participation in robotics competitions with guaranteed success.- Exchange of information through e-twining for both students and teachers. The fourth activity will take a course of eight days by university professionals qualified in the subject of robotics and its teaching. From all this, participants will receive certification from the host organization. To sumarize, we seek to train our teachers with quality training and new methodologies. The aim of this is that such training is transmitted to our students and so are motivated to further their studies and that they bet the best education we can give to them.
