La Interculturalidad, una fuente de riqueza en mi centro.
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our high school is situated in the south east of Gran Canaria (Spain). Migratory movements and cultural diversity play an important role in our surroundings as well as our location as a touristic destination . Because of these reasons, the staff at school feels the need of acquiring new motivating methodologies to succeed in the integration of the students we usually receive in our school. On the other hand, despite working competences in foreign languages, we think that its continuity will be fundamental for all teachers of the different departments, CLIL programme and for local and foreign pupils. The age range of the participants in the project “Interculturality, a source of wealth in my school” goes from 40 to 56 years old. Two of them belong to CLIL programme, members of the English Department and teachers from other ones (Philosophy and Economics) . Some of them have attended courses of foreign languages in European countries before and others will take part as new members of our project. Teachers involved in the Project, in order to fullfil most of the needs of our centre, have decided to attend to courses in different organizations, such as Dominou Association, International Study Programmes and English Matters. On the other hand, the participants who want to take part in a job-shadowing experience, have contacted via e-Twinning with a school from Estonia. All these mobilities will let us improve any aspects of the learning process (language skills, methodology, integration, motivating material,…), and the exchange of experiences among teachers from anywhere in Europe.Teachers are expected to feel new motivations and illusions at their work, putting into practice the experiences they have shared with their mates from other countries. We also hope to achieve the necessary skills to work on those values that encourage the integration of foreign students. Our new knowledge will help us to face the daily classroom work and life at school. We will try to disseminate all this enthusiastic labour all around the educational community (families, teachers from other schools,…) As a result, we expect our pupils to find more motivation at studies, and the new ones feel a real integration. This is a possible way to decrease failures and living troubles. We consider that English, the common European language, can be an efficient tool to reach these goals. As migratory movements are more frequent in our continent, we would like to help our pupils to become open-minded enough to beat any social prejudices now and in the future wherever they are. Personal limits that stop the student´s social relationships could be broken. In order to disseminate the results of our project, we will make use of as many means as possible: teachers at school, Primary schools, high schools, CEPs, Town Hall, mass media, social networks, …
