La Formation Professionnelle Transrégionale Occidentale (La FPTO)
Start date: Jun 30, 2003, End date: Jun 29, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

Vocational training is an increasingly important factor for economic and social regional development. Substantial changes have taken place in Europe in three areas: gradual integration of training sub-systems within states, regional decentralisation of competencies, and conformity and recognition of qualifications on a European level. Against this background, the project aims to strengthen cooperation among regions with regard to vocational training and to help create a European training area while developing the regional economy, especially SMEs which are very widespread within our territory. The following are the most relevant objectives: to promote adaptation of training to the needs of the labour market, and to improve mobility in training and on the labour market. Overall objective / Objectif général Overall objective To establish a network for cooperation between systems and tools for vocational training, facilitating innovation and quality improvement based on collaboration among the partners within the framework of their competencies. This will be mediated through common actions, transparency and standardisation of vocational qualifications, the exchange of good practices and the production of training tools and materials. Expected results / Résultats attendus With regard to the equivalence of qualifications, the results of the operation will be: specific methods for recognition and accreditation; a methodology for certification and recognition; benchmarking and methods for comparison. Regarding in-company training courses, the expected results will be: improved technical, linguistic and social skills among exchange participants (young people and trainers); and greater cooperation among the training centres and companies involved. The products resulting from the organisation of courses will be: a course notebook, and the publication of a document on the European dimension of in-company training. Regarding long-term effects, the project mainly aims to expand the European dimension of training systems and to support worker mobility.
