La Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Utebo ante el nuevo reto de los niveles C1 y C2: actualización en lengua inglesa, su didáctica y aspectos culturales en la educación de adultos.
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Utebo is a state-run school whose purpose is teaching languages to adults. Among our students, in the last few years, we have appreciated an increase in CLIL teachers aiming at improving their language level, employees of international companies working in the area and job seekers, both first time and unemployed. All these students are demanding English at high levels. At the same time, legislative changes in our country will make it compulsory for Official Language Schools (Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas) in Spain to teach levels C1 and C2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Currently, there are three English courses at level C1 in our school. Unfortunately, in our area there are no opportunities for our teachers to improve their language standard at this level. For this reason, the school intends to send two teachers to the course "Contemporary English for Adult Education Staff" (Bell Teacher Campus, University of Cambridge) This course takes place over a period of two weeks in the month of July. These two teachers are permanent staff members. One is the Head of the English Department, in charge of developing and supervising the English Department teaching syllabus, and is currently teaching at the C1 level. The second participant is a teacher in the English department, and she is also in charge of organising and supervising training for the whole staff. Through the participation of these teachers in the course, the school aims to achieve the following outcomes: 1. Development of linguistic skills and socio-cultural awareness. 2. Direct benefit to students in our school, thanks to the skills gained by teachers in the course. 3. Opportunity for post-course dissemination of good practices to other teachers. 4. Dissemination between teachers and students of the possibilities of adult education in languages in the rest of Europe. 5. Dissemination of our school system among course participants. We anticipate an overall benefit for the whole school: students, teachers and the institution itself. We hope to be able to network with other professionals for international projects with institutions similar to ours.
