L'Europe à l'école
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The school is located in rural surroundings; therefore the international openness is rather limited. There is only a very small cultural mix and our town doesn’t have any twinning program with any city abroad. Therefore we would like to bring our pupils a greater openness on the world and thus have them discover other cultures. Moreover, the teaching of the English language would be enriched if the teachers would be better trained linguistically and methodologically. Since the end of their studies, the teachers did not have any language training at all, which means that they do wish to develop their language practice, to enrich their vocabulary and to improve their phonological level to be more comfortable in class. Four teachers would like to participate to the mobility: - The school’s director, also kindergarten teacher, who is enabled to teach English - Two primary school teachers who wish to be enabled to teach English - Another primary school teacher who has just started the process of being enabled The rest of the teaching staff supports our project knowing they will benefit from it. In order to achieve our goal, we would like to take part to a methodological, cultural and language training provided by the SILC organization in Malta. This training is 2 weeks long and would take place during the Spring holidays. A steering committee has been formed in order to put together a file and follow-up measures. There will be a presentation made at different times to the Teachers board that will then be able to assess the actions quality and the goals alignment. We expect this project to improve the pedagogy offering a heightening awareness to the language already in the kindergarten and a daily practice in the primary school. Our purpose is to introduce children to this language so that it becomes a real tool to communicate with others. We also wish to provide all of the pupils a greater cultural openness as well as to implement specific actions such as a letter exchange program with an English-speaking school, creation by the pupils of an exhibition of European countries, workshops about different lifestyles, etc. Our long-term objective is to provide a European dimension to our school as well as to develop the English teaching at the early stages of basic education.
