Kulttuuripolulta maailmalle
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Lemi is a small rural municipality in south-eastern Finland, and Lemi Comprehensive School is the only school in the area. There are 317 pupils, aged 7-16, getting high-quality basic education with an emphasis on cultural heritage in Lemi Comprehensive. In years 2015-2016 we have been developing "Cultural Path", which is a teacher's tool for cultural education. During the nine years of basic education the student will learn various art forms and study the culture of South Carelia. The Cultural Path is also a means to fullfill the modern teaching methods of the new curriculum. In the project "From Cultural Path to the World" three teachers and the head of education of Lemi will take part in international teacher training courses. Their task is to develop the Cultural Path based on the knowledge and skills obtained in the courses. They'll also guide their colleagues in adapting new teaching methods. The experiences and the new methods will be spread to neighbouring municipalities in the teacher meetings of the West Saimaa counties. The South Carelian Centre of the Children's Culture, Metku, will mediate the information to the entire area of South Carelia. The most important aim of the project is to guarantee rich cultural experiencies to every pupil of Lemi Comprehensive School. The Cultural Path is a yearly plan to make sure that the pupils have a chance to visit a theatre, art exhibition, movies, museum. The basis for everything is to know your own roots, and that will help children to manage in the global world.
