Our project title was "Open Windows to Europe, practical English". We wanted to rise awereness among pupils, that we are a part of Europe and European cultural heritage. There isn´t any special English teacher in our school. English is taught by classteachers. Two of them participated in this project. The teachers needed to improve their own language skills and teaching methods so that they can help especially pupils with problems in learning English. They wanted to create connections with other European schools so that pupils can use English in practise. Two classteachers participated training courses in United Kingdom. There in authentic cultural environment they practised their own language skills, got new knowledge to develop teaching English in our school. They met teachers from Europe and created contacts to co-operate, so pupils can use their English. The knowledge they got from the training courses was devided to other teachers in our school and also to other primary school teachers in Saarijärvi.
