Kompetencje nauczycieli kluczem do sukcesu zawodowego uczniów
Start date: Dec 31, 2014, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

‘Teachers’ competence as a key to students’ success’ is a project prepared in Technical and Vocational School Complex nr 1 in Pruszków. Its major assumptions were defined in response to the growing needs of vocational language teaching, the requirements of curriculum and employers’ expectations towards graduates’ language abilities. As an educational institution aiming at providing its students with the highest possible standard of education we wish our teachers to gain appropriate professional knowledge, which in result will guarantee effective and efficient teaching. Our main objective is to adjust our staffs’ competencies and skills to teach in a class which students will soon become potential employees on both Polish and European job markets. Unfortunately, our annual trainings and courses market research made us draw a conclusion that the offer available on the market is rather limited and regarding vocational language trainings and courses it practically does not exist. Thus, we are strongly convinced that the best way to enable our teachers professional development is by applying for the project participation. It would be a perfect opportunity to introduce our teachers into the world of innovative teaching methods, solutions and tools. It would also improve their competence in the scope of vocational vocabulary and second language teaching methodology. In contemporary technical and vocational teaching the role of a second language teacher is multi-dimensional. They are responsible not only for preparing their students to take their secondary school certificate exams, but also what is more significant, for developing their vocational language skills necessary for international mobility and cooperation. We have selected 4 teachers to participate in the project. They are all thoroughly educated, experienced, young teachers tutoring both general and vocational language. They are all passionate, creative, highly involved and motivated. Nevertheless, their overall knowledge of vocational language teaching methodology is rather insufficient owing to the lack of formal training in that field. We are strongly convinced that external training would provide our teachers with necessary professional knowledge as well as it would be an unique opportunity to exchange teaching experiences with colleagues from UE countries, where the vocational language teaching is already well-established and has a long-term tradition. In our view attending the project would result in better understanding of culture and customs of the host country, it would facilitate international cooperation, develop the sense of European community membership and enable achievement of transparency and cohesion of qualification. Moreover, we have defined several indirect goals of the project. First of all, participation in an international programme would increase our school’s attractiveness and prestige. We would also obtain a reliable partner willing to educate our staff in the future. However, what is crucial due to professional development our staff would be able to increase learner’s motivation and in consequence boost the efficiency of education. It is particularly important in the context of our planned student internship mobility to EU countries where both students and teachers will perform action in professional environment. Our project assumes school’s engagement in all phases of course organization. Nevertheless, it puts the greatest emphasis on all teachers’ assessment and evaluation after course completion. We plan to conduct evaluation procedure both among project participants and their students. Pre and post course lessons are predicted as well as post course survey is planned. We believe that the result of the evaluation would help us improve school’s performance We are strongly convinced that our teacher’s participation in international and multicultural training would have a positive impact on their vocational language knowledge as well as on their general language awareness. It would definitely be reflected in the quality of their professional performance what would consequently lead to the increase of their student’s effectiveness and attractiveness on the labour market.
