Kollaboratives Lernen
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school, Gymnasium am Krebsberg, would like to put a stronger focus on collaborative learning as an integral part of teaching in all of our courses. As an important complement to individual forms of learning, this is supposed to promote the students' ability to work cooperatively thereby improving the necessary social skills and learning methods.Interactive and cooperative classes are motivating for students as well as teachers. Joint learning is inspiring and provides a significant opportunity to acquire problem-solving skills and practise teamwork. In order to achieve these goals, three members of our staff will participate in different professional development courses within the course of one year. One teacher will attend a professional development course titled "Creative Teaching in the Secondary and Adult English Language Classroom" in Oxford. The main focus of this course will be on making classes more interactive and getting to know practical activities for teaching mixed ability classes. The course also involves a visit to a local school.A teacher from the French department will attend a course in Lille titled "Teaching & Learning of French Language and Culture." It is the goal of this seminar to develop the participants' planning skills by having them develop their own teaching resources cooperatively for later application in the classroom. Additionally, the participants will visit a local school to observe and discuss teaching practice in France.A teacher from the Maths department will participate in a course titled "Tablets for Sciences and Math" in Tallin. It is the idea of this course to develop an understanding of how to use tablets as tools of explorative learning in Maths. Besides independent learning in groups, this course will put a particular focus on exchanging best practice concerning responsible and safe use of tablets and interactive learning resources.Following a call at our school, the participants expressed their interest and participated in writing this application. Before and after the professional development courses the participants will exchange information with each other and the head of the Department of Didactics concerning organizational questions and the content of the individual courses.By participating in international professional development courses, the participants will get to know important methods of collaborative learning. These skills will not only be used in their own classes, they will also share their experiences with the other members of staff. In addition to that, the participants will also bring their knowledge to bear working in professional development and examination boards.Gymnasium am Krebsberg attaches great value to modern teaching which sees collaborative learning as a key competence. Teaching which promotes interaction and joint problem-solving facilitates learning which is not only motivating but has a fundamental significance for training and career development.
