Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The goal of our project is to enable international relationships to our school, observe project teaching and inclusion. Our plan is to work together with a small Irish school, the Culfadda National school, a school that teaches through projects to different aged students. Our new national curriculum urges to develop teaching towards project teaching, combining many subjects together. By visiting Culfadda National we could get new ideas and perspective to teaching and we could learn how they teach by combining subjects in order to promote learning. All the areas children attend Culfadda National. The school manages to teach all the students, also those with learning difficulties.During our project two teachers would travel to Ireland during June to attend a job shadowing visit. Because Culfadda only has four classes, our visiting teachers are limited to two. This visit would be carefully planned during spring by using email and Skype. In our school classroom teachers and special education teachers work closely together. The visiting teachers would consist of a classroom teacher who teaches English and a special education teacher. Because our school has no posts for language teachers, the classroom teachers also teach foreign languages for instance English and German. Our project would act as education for the visiting teachers. The teachers would improve their language skills and knowledge of foreign culture. The continuous cooperation would enable a possibility to improve teaching and include international issues to teaching. The special education teacher would observe the learning support groups that enable the students with learning difficulties also attend their own school in the village. The visiting teachers would collect their observations in learning diaries. After returning the visiting teachers will disseminate their experiences and ideas to the teachers and principle of the school. These discussions will be made use of while planning the new semester, particularly learning projects and foreign languages. The experiences will be briefed to the other principals, so that other schools may ask for details of the project if they are interested. Our teachers, students, parents and the Board of Directors will also be briefed of the job shadowing and its impacts. The students will be able to benefit from our international connections for instance by writing letters in foreign language.
