Kohti yhteistä koulua: fokuksessa monikulttuurisuus, inklusiivisuus ja kestävä kehitys / Towards a school for all: multiculturalism, inclusion and sustainable development in focus
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In summer 2016 Sipoonjoki school is moving into a new building called the Heart of Nikkilä which we will share with Kungsvägens skola, our Swedish-speaking sister school, and in recent months reception centres for young asylum seekers have been opened in Sipoo municipality where we are located. Therefore our main objective is to create an inclusive and multicultural school community where everyone is welcome and has a chance to participate in international cooperation. As Sipoonjoki school is an eco school with a Green Flag certificate, we will have sustainable development as a central unifying theme. Our plan is to send seven teachers on Erasmus+ courses in 2016-2017. One of the teachers is our headmaster, one a special education teacher and five others subject teachers. The courses cover multiculturalism topics, diversity in schools, different ways of communicating and sustainable development. With the knowledge and skills acquired in these courses we hope to be better equipped to teach pupils with varied backgrounds and different ways of learning and to have more effective communication skills. We also hope we will have new ways of teaching sustainable development to diverse groups of pupils and new European contacts who are interested co-operation. In the long term we hope these Erasmus+ courses are the beginning international co-operation and the first courses of systematic training to become well-equipped to handle the challenges of school life today.
