There is a co-operation between Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County and Kosice Region for a long time. One of the main targets of this cooperation is tourism. Though each area is very rich in natural, historical and cultural attractions, the tourism usage of them is quite poor and ineffective. There is a big need for the connection of booking systems, to establish a long-term and sustainable co-operation between the tourism organizations and entrepreneurs in both regions. The preparation of this project started more than one year ago. The project also has economical and social aims: the development of tourism can increase the local entrepreneurial and state tax incomes and can create new job possibilities. The mutual visits and travels have social and cultural aims, too: people will get to better know each other´s history, culture and life, therefore can build new personal contacts and friendships. In Hungary the establishment of the destination management organizational system is now going on. There is a huge expertise and know-how which is wished to be transferred to the Slovakian partner. The municipality of Spišská Nová Ves aims to establish a destination management agency in the town (the operation of this agency is NOT the purpose of the present project) the Hungarian partner wish to transfer the know how and give technical support for the strong basement of this agency. The Hungarian partner is an operating tourist information office, who wish to widen its tasks by destination management activities in the future. Achievements: Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County and the Košice Region are very rich in natural, historical and cultural attractions. However, their use for tourism is rather poor and ineffective. The project partners comprehensively tackle the management, organizational and promotional aspects of the issue through various strategic, management and operational methods and tools. The main elements of the project were the creation of joint tourism product packages and routes and related marketing activities, including joint participation in fairs and joint Road Shows in the surrounding countries.
