.'Knowing us: knowing you' was a learning exchange between two national-level community development organisations: the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) from Scotland, and Samenlevingsopbouw Vlaanderen (SOV) from Flanders, Belgium. The background to the project is that both organisations are active members of the European Community Development Network (EuCDN) and have become aware that each has ideas, ways of organising and working that are of great interest to the other. The project consist of a visit by SOV to SCDC to learn of the work of SCDC, the policy context, the methods and resources SCDC has developed, and ways in which community development is promoted and deployed. SOV is willing to host a return visit by SCDC, where similar discussions will take place, with a particular focus on how community development is organised and supported in Flanders and Brussels if SCDC gets a grant to make it happen. The participants are experienced community development staff of Samenlevingsopbouw, all with substantial experience in the field, but keen to have a critical appraisal from a similar organisation in another country. There are 5 participants from Samenlevingsopbouw Vlaanderen and 6 participants from its regional partner organisations. The results will increased competence and understanding of alternative ways of approaching challenges in community development, and organisational learning to inform future planning and strategy. More broadly we improved support to communities, in particular disadavantaged communities, through participants' and our organisations' enhanced competence and confidence. Results from the learning exchange have been and will be documented and disseminated to interested audiences through Samenlevingsopbouw Vlaanderen, SCDC, their partner organisations at national level, and through EuCDN at Europe-wide level.
