Know My Nature
Start date: May 1, 2015,
End date: Jan 1, 2016
Know My Nature was a bilateral youth exchange between Finland and Iceland. It took place in Rautavaara and Hyvinkää. There was 6 working days and 21 young participants aged 14-18. There were 2 group leaders from both of the countries.
Our main themes in the exchange focused on healthy life and respecting the nature. We wanted to examine the possibilities to take benefits form the nature to make the everyday life healthier.
We used various non-formal and active methods to deal with the theme. In the program we had different kinds of games, simulations, workshops and exercises where the participants could learn about their strength, weaknesses and get to know the activities they can carry out in the nature. We wanted to learn about the different kind of hobbies and games and examine the differences and similarities between both Nordic countries. We also wanted to pay regard to the importance of nature when doing different activities games and learn how spending time in the nature can be healthy. The planning of the exchange is mostly done with the young participants of the Hyvinkään Nuorisopalvelut international club. Together we have tried to find the best methods to get to our target.
We wanted the participants to get more aware of their surroundings and how to benefit from it. We wanted to impact for the local community to realize the possibilities of outside activities by sharing the experience from the exchange.
