Knižnice pre vzdelávanie 50 plus
Start date: Nov 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The basic mission of a library as a cultural institution is to satisfy cultural, informational, educational and scientific people‘s needs with the objective to help their lifelong learning. The main aim of the project “Libraries for education 50 plus“ is to ensure the access to knowledge and information which support mental development throughout their whole life. The project is targeted at age group over 50, which is becoming the „threatened category of population“ from the point of view of social ties considering the demographical trend in EU. The project seeks a systematic way to make the process of non-formal education more intensive by using innovative methods and selecting interesting and thematic topics that are not only suitable but also attractive for this age category. Partners of the project are libraries with tradition and experience in the area of library and information services, as well as non-formal education in the process of lifelong learning, namely: Jána Bocatia in Košice (SK), Moravzskoslezská vědecká knihovna in Ostrava (CZ) and Źupná a mestská knižnica II. Františka Rákócziho in Miskolc (MR). These libraries have another benefit – regional, co-coordinative and methodical activities, therefore they can pass the experience to other regional, city and local libraries in their area. The first part of the project will be focused on collecting information and mapping the existing experience of participating libraries using mobility – exchange of experience in form of 5-day meetings of 5 library representatives which will gradually take place in each library. This material will be the basis for creating the intellectual outcome of the project.Intellectual outcome of the project “Libraries for education 50 plus“ will be drawing up a strategic document called „Strategy of non-formal education of adult population in libraries with emphasis on 50 plus category“ („STRATEGY“). This document will include basic strategic goals and objectives for ensuring non-formal education of a selected target group, in this case 50 plus. STRATEGY will have an ambition to become a model document with wider application in adult lifelong learning with international context and the possibility of update since it is going to be published on websites of the participating libraries. Since participating libraries operate on a local level, the project and its outcome will be shared at least in the regions where they operate. Pilot educational activities for the target group will represent another outcome of the project and they will be based on STRATEGY and implemented simultaneously by all three partners from September 2017 to October 2018. Each partner will organize 10 events with foreign lecturers. Topics, recommendations and literature will be a part of STRATEGY as its approved implementation into practice.Educational activities will take the form of brainstorming and thus help to make non-formal education more attractive and interesting not only for the selected target group, but also another group of unlimited age – the readers. This will enable the mutual exchange of intergenerational experience and strengthening of social ties among particular age categories, since these are disappearing from the life of present-day generations. The outcome of the project will be presented at a final conference „Libraries and their mission in the process of lifelong adult learning“. Project team consisting of experienced employees of the participating libraries will ensure the implementation and monitoring of the project as well as its information mediation. STRATEGY will be published on library websites as an „open“ document, where experience and ideas of participating libraries, as well as recommendations and „best practice“ will be added even after the project is finished.
