There is a great demand for qualified welder that is essential for many industrial areas like machinery, construction, automotive, petroleum, natural gas, fresh water and sewerage lines, shipyards and so on. The demand has vital importance for the industry of Turkey who continuously grows and becomes a model for its neighbours, trying to integrate with European Union. Since the knowledge and skills which can be gained through the schools giving occupational education to the target people are so slight on account of the insufficient equipment, these schools cannot meet the demand of the related businesses for various qualified welders. Our project considers these shortages in our national industry and includes 3 important fields of welding: pipe welding; steel construction welding and TIG welding for internship. Turkey is at the cross-section of Europe and Asia so the transportation of the water from dams to the cities, pipelines for oil and natural gas which interlace our country, increased the pipe welding. As the agreement is reached on the pipeline coming from Northern Iraq to Yumurtalık for Northern Iraq petroleum, it is obvious that the open air pipe welding that does not tolerate any fault, will be greatly demanded. Additionally, there are many buildings like shopping malls, bridges, terminals and so on which uses steel construction recently. Since Turkey is on a seismic belt, it is very important to weld the steel constructions strongly as it is required. TIG welding, on the other hand, is used in closed areas by minimum damaging the physical and chemical features of the metals since the heat input is concentrated on the welding point, so it does not deform the work parts and does not weaken the resistance of the metals and it is widely used. TIG welding is a welding method that enables many kind of metals to be welded without any problem and provides high quality welding results; thus, its usage is widely increased in Turkey and in the world. It is also suitable for regular welding seam, so it is not necessary for cleaning the seam. The method is completely used in welding of chemical and food industries, aluminum, stainless steel, bronze and cooper. There are great demand for qualified labour in these areas. The very first goal of our project is to meet the qualified labour demand of the market by training students who will make various welding applications successfully, have higher level of occupational sufficiency, be aware of the contemporary technologies, open to developments. Our accepting partners are active in a range of welding applications. They are establishments which uses advanced technological facilities in steel construction, TIG and pipe weldings with sufficient equipment and experts."Metaal Talent" is active in Netherlands and “Huth Zaun Torsisteme” and “WKB Wilhelm Krahn GmbH” are active in Germany. The project will provide 32 students in schools which are three partners to be intern in hosting partners who have developed capabilities in the fields of steel construction, TIG and pipe weldings for 3 weeks. Internship works will be realized as 3 flows between 9 November and 20 December 2014. During the internship, the participants will be provided convenient environments to exchange what they learn and acquire. The welding applications will be an important part of the internship programme. The methods of research, analysis, planning, interpretation, application, monitoring, dissemination and assessment will be followed. The participants are expected to indicate some results , such as; better employment possibilities; increased entrepreneurship; increased self-confidence and personal development; generation of inter-cultural awareness; positive approach towards EU values; and specialization on steel construction, TIG and pipe weldings. Additionally, there are long run expectations from the project like stronger tie between business world and vocational education; modernization of the educational institutions and leading of the participants to their colleagues in the future.
