Kansainvälisyyttä uuden OPS:in hengessä Kimpisen lukiossa
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Kimpinen Upper Secondary School wants to face the challenges of the internationalisation strategy of the Education department of the City of Lappeenranta and the new National Curriculum, especially regarding its themes. Besides internationalisation we put emphasis on sustainable development and entrepreneurship in our work. The aim of these courses + job shadowing and this project is to increase the teachers' competencies and readiness to internationalisation (both different projects and bringing internationalisation into their courses, not to mention language skills), the new National Curriculum, new pedagogical thinking and theme studies. We hope this project increases job satisfaction, commitment to work and school development work, and that it reflects into the whole school as dynamism, courageousness, willingness to learn new things adn evolve, and increased communal spirit. We believe the project will be an empowering experience, both for the applicants as well as the whole school. We want to encourage teacher training and readiness to work internationally in all means, because it is all reflected into our students.Nine teachers with very different backgrounds showed interest in the project and wanted to participate. We gave this opprotunity to all teachers. We are applying the grant for a period of 24 months. Eight teachers are interested in going on a structured course whereas one teacher wants to do job shadowing. We believe that these teachers will set an example for students and that this encourages them to participate in our international projects. Each teacher chose their own course and they are all going on a different course, which is good for the school, too. This way we will get as many ideas and experiences as possible. The contents of the courses are very different, but they all share the same objective: they increase the teachers' language skills, international networks and competencies. The courses support both the curriculum and the teachers' personal development and professionalism. We hope the project brings us new international contacts upon which it is easy to plan foture projects and courses, whatever their theme is. On top of that we hope that the courses give us new perspectives and tips into methods, ways of doing and counselling. We think that the courses give us many new thoughts into the new courses. Job shadowing in Sweden will help to increase the motivation to study Swedish in our school.
